Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I buy from GPA?
Because label paper and specialty products constitute 100% of our business. Not only do we offer North America's largest in-stock selection of top quality products, but we provide you with label expertise, experience, custom capabilities and quick, localized delivery. Printing on pressure sensitive papers and specialty products adds a different dynamic to basic printing processes. GPA, Specialty Printable Substrates will be there to guide you to success, from purchase to print.

Can I kiss-cut laser material?
Yes you can. However, the liner of laser material is usually 40# or 50#, which is much thinner than standard sheet-fed label stock. Due to the thin liner, precise kiss-cutting is required to avoid cutting all the3 way through the material. If you require a non-standard label size, contact GPA for a custom quote.

Do you have any clear, vinyl or other synthetic materials for laser printing?
Yes we do.  GPA offers a variety of laser products. The following are some of our suggestions:

  • Ultra Laser by GPA Clear Laser Labels
  • Ultra Laser by GPA Vinyl Laser Labels
  • Clear Matte Laser Labels by Avery
  • If you require a non-standard label size, contact GPA for a custom quote.
Can pre die-cut labels run through a laser printer?
Pre die-cut labels are not designed to go through a laser printer. They are specifically designed with a gripper edge for offset printability. Additionally, die-cut labels cannot go through a laser printer due to the intricate paper path which causes the die-cut labels to pop off the release liner.

What is the difference between pre die-cut labels and laser labels?
Laser labels have the waste or matrix intact around each label while die-cut labels do no. Pre die-cut labels cannot go through a laser printer due to the intricate paper path which causes the die-cut labels to pop off the release liner.

Can I run regular pressure sensitive paper on a laser printer?
No, you can not. This material is not designed to run on a laser printer. The facestock and adhesive must be specifically formulated for laser printing due to the heat in a laser printer.

What application surfaces demand a removable adhesive?
Here are just a few examples:
  • Various metals or plastics on machines or equipment where an instruction label may be applied and require removal later.
  • Window or glass where a promotion or sale label may be applied
What would you use for a bumper sticker application?
First figure out how long you want the bumper sticker to last. The following are our suggestions:
  • Top Coated Flex Vinyl - This is a water-proof facestock that will last up to two years if used with the proper inks.
  • 60# Latex Impregnated - Paper stock that is saturated with a latex coating. This water resistant coated paper is good for up to six months.
What is a fabric-friendly material?
Fabric friendly material generally consists of name badge stocks with rubber-based adhesives that are specifically developed and tested for use on fabrics. Do not use any adhesive on suede, fur, leather, silk or vinyl.

What facestock should be used for signage on metal shelves that can eventually be removed?
Because removability is dependent upon the strength of the adhesive and facestock, either a removable vinyl or a tear-resistant synthetic stock such as Teslin should be used. Paper products are not recommended.

What products should be used for name badges?
Products with a special adhesive designed to remove cleanly from fabrics. Do not use any adhesive on suede, fur, leather, silk or vinyl.

What are acceptable methods of payment?
  • C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery)
  • Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
  • Open terms upon credit approval
Do you have free shipping?
Yes, if you place an order over $200 within the continental United States.

What is an offset facestock?
An uncoated stock which is relatively absorbent for fast ink penetration.

What is a matte facestock?
A coated stock with a dull finish.

What is a high gloss facestock?
A cast-coated shiny finish stock.

What does universal split mean?
Scores on the release liner of the label stock are repeated a consistent distance (every 1 1/4") across the entire sheet.

What does zero split mean?
The release liner on the label stock has no scores.
